{"id":11515,"date":"2013-07-12T17:27:10","date_gmt":"2013-07-12T22:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terada.ca\/discourse\/?p=11515"},"modified":"2013-07-12T17:28:50","modified_gmt":"2013-07-12T22:28:50","slug":"stavrakakis-the-political","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.terada.ca\/discourse\/2013\/07\/12\/stavrakakis-the-political\/","title":{"rendered":"stavrakakis the political"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The unmitigated <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>real<\/strong><\/span> provokes anxiety, and this in turn gives rise to never-ending, <strong>defensive, imaginary constructs\u0092<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Following from this, \u0091all human productions [Society itself, culture, religion, science] \u0085can be understood in the light of that structural failure of the symbolic in relationship to the real\u0092. It is the moment of this failure, the moment of our encounter with the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>real<\/strong><\/span>, that is revealed as the moment of the political par excellence in our reading of Lacan.<\/p>\n<p>It is the constitutivity of this moment in Lacanian psychoanalysis that proves our fantasmatic conception of the socio-political institution of society as a harmonious totality to be no more than a mirage.<\/p>\n<p>It is this traumatic moment of the political qua encounter with the real that initiates again and again a process of symbolisation, and initiates the ever-present hegemonic play between <strong>different symbolisations of this<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>real<\/strong><\/span>. 73<\/p>\n<p><strong>This play leads to the emergence of politics<\/strong>, to the political institution of a new social fantasy (or of many antagonistic fantasies engaged in a struggle for hegemony) in the place of the dislocated one, and so on and so forth.<\/p>\n<p>It is the <span style=\"color: red; font-weight: bold; font-size: 11pt;\">lack<\/span> created by <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>dislocation<\/strong><\/span> that causes the desire for a new discursive articulation. It is this <span style=\"color: red; font-weight: bold; font-size: 11pt;\">lack<\/span> created by a <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>dislocation<\/strong><\/span> of the social which forms the kernel of the political as an encounter with the Lacanian real.<\/p>\n<p>Every <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>dislocatory<\/strong><\/span> <strong>event<\/strong> leads to the antagonistic articulation of different discourses that attempt to symbolise its traumatic nature, to <strong>suture the<\/strong> <span style=\"color: red; font-weight: bold; font-size: 11pt;\">lack<\/span> it creates.
