MIT Press<\/p>\n<p>Here we\u00a0come to the last grand narrative from the era of the end of grand narratives:\u00a0there is no Real, everything is convention, language games, a labyrinth of different possibilities that, at least in principle, are all of\u00a0equal value. What is the effect of this thesis?<\/p>\n<p>Its effect is not exactly\u00a0the disappearance of the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real<\/span><\/strong>, but, rather, its full coincidence with\u00a0reality. In other words, the <strong>reality principle<\/strong> is now conceived of as\u00a0the only and ultimate <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is what Nietzsche calls \u201cmodern nihilism\u201d\u00a0and the \u201ccrisis of values,\u201d the latter being precisely the \u201ccrisis\u00a0of sublimation\u201d in the sense described above.<\/p>\n<p>At issue is not a\u00a0complaint about the corruption of values, and lack of respect for\u00a0them, but a diagnosis concerning the weakening of the sublimatory\u00a0force, the force that could produce or create some distance toward\u00a0the reality principle and its claims.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It entails the closure of the very\u00a0space of creativity.<\/strong> This is why it is very important to keep insisting\u00a0upon the notion of the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>that, in turn, has to be defined in terms\u00a0other than those of some \u201cauthentic Real\u201d lurking behind the deceptive\u00a0appearances. A<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">nd the (late) Lacanian notion of the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real<\/span><\/strong> can\u00a0help us to do precisely that. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0is not some authentic Beyond,\u00a0constituting the truth of the reality. The <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">is not the Beyond of reality,\u00a0but its own blind spot or dysfunction\u2014that is to say, the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0the stumbling block on account of which <\/strong><\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">reality does not fully coincide with\u00a0itself<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">. The <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Real\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">is the<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"> intrinsic division of reality itself<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zupan\u010di\u010d, A.
