{"id":1337,"date":"2008-12-18T11:08:11","date_gmt":"2008-12-18T15:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terada.ca\/discourse\/?p=1337"},"modified":"2009-03-15T14:21:07","modified_gmt":"2009-03-15T19:21:07","slug":"be-the-phallus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.terada.ca\/discourse\/2008\/12\/18\/be-the-phallus\/","title":{"rendered":"To be the Phallus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Woman is the phallus<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To be the Phallus is to &#8220;embody&#8221; the Phallus as the place to which it penetrates, but also to signify the promise of a return to the preindividuated <em>jouissance<\/em> that characterizes the undifferentiated relation to the mother (note 13: 159).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On page 45, JB states:<\/p>\n<p>Women are said to &#8220;be&#8221; the Phallus in the sense that they maintain the power to reflect or represent the &#8220;reality&#8221; of the self-grounding postures of the masculine subject, a power which, if withdrawn would break up the foundational illusions of the masculine subject position.  In order to &#8220;be&#8221; the Phallus, the reflector and guarantor of an apparent masculine subject position, women must become, must &#8220;be&#8221; (in the sense of &#8220;posture as if they were&#8221;) precisely what men are not and, in their very lack, establish the essential function of men.
