In the operation of the University&#8217;s Discourse, knowledge is the cause of the subject because the Discourse represents an attempt to master the <em><strong>a<\/strong><\/em>, its excluded term. Its truth is the master signifier, which this discourse continually reproduces. For this reason, an anti-clockwise quarter-turn of the schema of the Discourse of the Master produces the schema of the Discourse of the University.<strong> The Discourse of the University installs the Discourse of the Master, such that S2 dominates and produces an illusory &#8220;all-knowledge&#8217; <\/strong>(Seminar 17: 34).\u00a0 That knowledge of all is illusory because the <em><strong>a<\/strong><\/em> always escapes it.
