Four basic existential positions:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. the individual<\/strong> (what Badiou calls the \u201chuman animal,\u201d the ordinary human being oriented by utilitarian motives and engaged in \u201cservicing the goods\u201d);<\/li>\n
  2. the human<\/strong> (the individual aware of the precariousness and mortality of its position);<\/li>\n
  3. the subject<\/strong> (a human being that overcomes its subordination to the \u201cpleasure principle\u201d by way of a heroic fidelity to a Truth-Event<\/strong>);<\/li>\n
  4. the neighbor<\/strong> (not the Levinasian version, which is closer to the second position, but the Freudo-Lacanian one, the abyssal inhuman Ding whose proximity causes anxiety).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The individual<\/strong> is a positively attuned human (living an ordinary life),in contrast to the negatively attuned human<\/strong> (aware of the precariousness and mortality of its condition);<\/p>\n

    the subject<\/strong> is a positively attuned agent engaged in an over-human truth-process, in contrast to the neighbor<\/strong> attuned to the negative stance of anxiety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
